The idea of Self Expressions was conceived in 1993 after I, Renee Morgan, decided to leave a full time job to begin a private counseling practice. I wanted to try to create an emotionally safe environment where people could come to work through the many struggles life brings. This was during the time that managed care companies were formed and the word on the street was that small practices would not survive more than a few years. I set up the practice in my home where it remained until 2003.
In 1997, a very respected colleague and friend, Dawn Marple Gise joined our small group of therapists as did a childhood friend, Beth Gantz Schreiber who was hired to become our office manager. Life's journey brings many people our way, and in 2011, one of my other trusted friends, Nancy Conway, joined our practice. Though many practices in the area have grown larger, we have made a conscious decision to stay small.
Today we continue to guarantee that when someone calls Self Expressions they speak to one of the four of us on the phone. While our office location has moved from my home to an office suite, we continue to provide the same emotionally safe environment for our clients. We also pride ourselves on the relationships we have built through the years with community physicians and other area agencies.

I believe in a having a collaborative relationship with my clients. Together, we focus on areas where growth is needed and goals are set. I believe in using an eclectic mix of strategies and interventions to help my clients achieve their goals.
Whether we are focusing on solutions of the moment or unlocking the mysteries of the past, we work on it together, carefully and skillfully. I am most proud of the working relationship I develop with each and every client. I know, and research shows, that a successful outcome through counseling depends on a trusting communicative relationship between me and my clients.

Dawn Marple Gise, MSW, LCSW
My work has been focused on helping people meet the challenges they are facing with insight, compassion, warmth and honesty. Whether someone is struggling with depression or anxiety, experiencing a significant loss or trauma, feeling overwhelmed or stressed or stuck in life, I meet people where they are at and help them to work toward a vision they have for a healthier self and a happier life.
I also specialize in helping people to create the relationships of their dreams. I have discovered that when the relationships in people’s lives are working, people are happy. However, many often find themselves frustrated and dissatisfied in their relationships. I teach healthy communication and ownership as a pathway to creating the relationships we wish for and those which we can create for us our greatest joy.
